DTC / SPN Code Removal — Eliminate Persistent Fault Codes

Fault codes don't always mean the engine has a problem. When a component is deleted (DPF, EGR, AdBlue, swirl flaps), when hardware is modified for off-road or motorsport use, or when a sensor has been removed for a specific build, the ECU continues to monitor for that component's presence — and continues to log fault codes when it's not detected. The result: a permanent MIL warning light, persistent diagnostic trouble codes, and on many vehicles, limp-home mode triggered by code accumulation.

Our DTC and SPN code removal solutions eliminate these unwanted codes at their source: the ECU's monitoring logic. The engine continues to operate normally; it just stops complaining about components it no longer needs to monitor.

DTC vs SPN — what's the difference?

DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) is the standard fault-code format used on passenger cars, vans, light commercial vehicles and most motorcycles. Codes are typically 5 characters — one letter (P, B, C, U) followed by 4 digits — and follow the OBD-II / EOBD format. Example: P2002 (DPF efficiency below threshold).

SPN (Suspect Parameter Number) is the equivalent format used on heavy-duty diesel engines following the SAE J1939 standard — HGVs, buses, coaches, agricultural machinery, construction equipment and marine engines. SPNs are numeric (often 5-digit) and identify the specific parameter the ECU is reporting on. They're typically combined with an FMI (Failure Mode Identifier) to describe the nature of the fault.

Both are the same concept — a code logged by the ECU when a parameter falls outside expected limits — just different naming conventions for different vehicle classes.

What our code removal solutions do

For each component or sensor you want code-suppressed, our tuning files modify the ECU's monitoring logic to:

• Stop monitoring the specific parameter that's triggering the code
• Treat the parameter as always within range
• Prevent the code from being written to the ECU's fault-code memory
• Suppress the dashboard MIL/warning light specifically for that code
• Prevent code-driven limp-home or restricted-operation modes

Other monitoring functions remain unchanged — codes for new or unrelated faults will still be detected and logged. We don't disable diagnostic monitoring wholesale; we surgically remove monitoring of components you've specifically deleted or modified.

• After a DPF, EGR, AdBlue or other emissions component delete — codes for the deleted system stop appearing
• Swirl flap / IMRC delete — actuator position codes suppressed
• Sensor failures on out-of-warranty vehicles where replacement isn't economic — failed sensor codes suppressed

• Persistent codes that won't clear after a repair — when the underlying fault is fixed but the code keeps re-appearing

Agricultural machinery

Case IH, Claas, Deutz-Fahr, Fendt, John Deere, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Same, Valtra. Both engine ECUs and transmission/PTO controllers where SPN suppression is relevant.

Heavy equipment / construction / plant

Bobcat, Bomag, Caterpillar, Doosan, JCB, Komatsu, Manitou, Wacker Neuson and others. Common in construction, mining, quarry, port and rental fleet contexts.

Motorcycles

BMW Motorrad (S1000, R1250 platforms), Ducati, KTM, Suzuki and similar. Less common than car-class applications, but available for specific off-road and track-day use cases.

Legal use

These services are strictly intended for off-road, motorsport, or export use where emission compliance is not required. They should not be applied to vehicles operated on the public highway in jurisdictions with active emissions enforcement. The customer is responsible for ensuring their use complies with local laws.

Identify the specific DTCs or SPNs you want suppressed, read your ECU using a compatible tuning tool (KESS3, K-TAG, Autotuner, MPPS, Dimsport for cars; appropriate heavy-duty equivalents for HGV/agri), submit the file via the A.R.C.H.I.E. portal with the code list.
